We rely too much on others to tell us what we are good at and what we need to do next. Parents, teachers, friends try to help but end up pressurising you to know what you want to do when you don’t know.
What makes it worse is when you say “I don’t know” people come with the question “Well, what would you like to do?” which is even more frustrating. The easy way out is to say “I’ll do my university course and then decide...” That keeps everyone quiet and you can escape from making any decisions for the next 3 years.
Then the pressure really is on. You have to make a decision. So, if you don’t want to you either take a year off and go around the world, or do an MSc to put off the ‘Evil day’! However with the costs involved the pressure to get a job - any job - is enormous.
The majority of people take the job that seems to suit them best from the interviews they have been to – often based in reality on liking the interviewer and feeling that in some way there is a supportive environment... or the prospects of making money which will impress all those around them. But, was it the right choice and could you have done something to make you feel happier about the choice you made?
So let’s start with the knowing a bit more about... “Who am I?”...
