Starting out
So you’re facing the end of your college/university course… or the end has already arrived! You’ve been to all the career days but nothing really has leapt out at you?
Getting your career started is always tough. How do you know if you want to do something… when you haven’t done it yet? And how do you know what you’re going to want to do in 2 years… let alone 10 years time? Believe it or not you already know the answer – it’s just a matter of you getting access to it.
Figuring out what you want to do is all about figuring out ‘you’ – what you’re really passionate about, what you can be brilliant at. And guess what… you can work that out from the things you’ve already done in your life up until now.
There is so much information about “careers” on web sites and in careers centres, but it tends to be just clever ways to get a CV put together – what you need to know is how to figure out who you are when it comes to your career?
In my experience the best way to understand this is through practical exercises that are all about you. After several years of university you’ve probably had more than enough theory!
