Career Change

Finding it harder and harder to get out of bed when the alarm goes off in the morning? Getting annoyed at work more often? The industry you work in is under threat from the credit crunch or technology and looks to be teetering on the edge of closure?

We all know that what we want from life in our 20s can be very different from our 30s… and our 40s and 50’s bring new challenges which don’t stop there and continue into our 60’s and 70’s. The same applies to your career. What could have been a very satisfying career in your 20s or 30s might not have the same glow 10 or 20 year later for a number of reasons:

  • The way you look at your work/life balance has changed, technology has changed and the business hasn’t
  • you didn’t get the promotion or bonus you felt that you deserved
  • you spend your time managing not doing the thing you love
  • ... and you feel like you’ve been there and got the t-shirt far too many times

Working out that the career you’ve had is no longer the career you want normally creeps up on you but the decision happens quite quickly. However, it’s the next stage that takes time and can often by demoralising to deal with – "so what do I want to do instead?"
